The CASTOR calorimeter at ALICE LHC

The CASTOR is a dedicated detector of ALICE to the search of centauro events and strangelets. It will measure the ratio of hadronic and electromagnetic event energy in the very forward region and the hadronic cascades profile. The CASTOR detector is a W-quartz fiber calorimeter with unique properties such as extreme radiation hardness, fast response and remarkably narrow shower's visible transverse size. Indroduction to the experimental goals and simulated performance of the detector will be presented. (NOTE: the presentation will be a talk or a contributed paper)
